Run of the Mill was conceived and named by our students, and its aim is to voice the many remarkable things that the Trust undertakes. The Trust now has eight centres, including schools and colleges, with international collaborations, and a flourishing research centre. We also have a Gateway Project for those students who wish to spend a further few years on independence and work skills.
The phrase ‘run of the mill’ is usually given over to mean something lacking in unusual or special features. In other words, it points to the ‘ordinary.’ However, as the reader of Run of the Mill will no doubt see, the articles gathered together here reveal something very far from being ordinary.
The heart of the vision of the Ruskin Mill Trust is that each individual has the potential to shape their own future through experiencing meaningful relationships with universe, earth and people. Each of the articles and stories in Run of the Mill demonstrates this in some way, and also makes clear the innovative educational method that underpins the whole of the student journey in all its detail.
