SRE

Sex and Relationships Education (SRE) involves lifelong learning about sex, sexuality, emotions, relationships and sexual health. It supports the acquisition of information, the development of skills and the formation of positive beliefs, values and attitudes to sexual health and well-being. SRE helps children and young people to move with confidence through puberty and adolescence and to manage their lives now and in the future.

SRE at Clervaux Garden School is individually planned to meet the needs of each child and young person. Planning and resources are shared with parents and carers and agreed by the Trustees of the school.

The schools use new videos and lesson plans from Life Support Productions and Jigsaw to support the teaching of SRE, matching the resources to the student. The videos used cover:

  • Growing up and body changes
  • Friendship
  • Keeping clean
  • Periods
  • Self-examination and privacy
  • Loneliness and feelings
  • Menopause
  • Consent and relationships
  • Consent and saying “no”
  • Consent “yes” and “no”
  • Love and affection
  • Online and social media
  • First dates and consent
  • Masturbation
  • Contraception
  • Attitudes and sex
  • Safer sex
  • Gay relationships
  • Pregnancy and birth

The education team work closely with the residential teams, parents and carers to support the planning and teaching of SRE.
