Qualifications at Ruskin Mill Trust
On entering the provision students are assessed to ascertain both their current functional skills (maths and English) and vocational skills levels and create a detailed profile. This information is then cross-referenced against any prior qualifications that the provision is aware of, and a suitable pathway created accordingly.
A dedicated functional skills team work with students using a combination of discrete, group and embedded sessions to improve their functional skills. Where appropriate this includes entering them for external qualifications with relevant exam boards, including Pearson Edexcel.
They may also have the opportunity of studying other stepping stone qualifications and units.
All students will be encouraged and supported to complete units from the Skills for Living and Work programme. This is a vocational qualification externally accredited by Open College Network. Here they will have the opportunity of to gain an award, certificate, or diploma at a level appropriate to them.
Where students have an identified career pathway then their education and learning coordinator may also recommend a more specifically targeted vocational qualification. This would then be delivered within the college and certified through the relevant awarding body.
“Ruskin Mill College is well organised and is to be congratulated on the standards demonstrated in the preparation, delivery, assessment and internal verification of the Entry Level Functional Skills Mathematics and Entry Level Functional Skills English (Reading, Writing and Speaking, Listening and Communication) programmes”
